When we talking about polyurea, we know that there is pure polyurea and hybrid, but what is the difference between them, and how should I choose? Thie article will give you some advice.

The A side of pure polyurea is isocyanate, and the B side resin is mainly consisting of polyether amine and amine chain extenders.

The reaction of isocyanate and polyether amine is very fast, and don’t need to add catalyst to accelerate the reaction speed, the rection outcomes pure polyurea which has an “Urea” link, which is more stable because it’s symmetrical chemical structure.
The A side of hybrid is the same as pure polyurea, it’s isocyanate, but the B side resin is polyether polyols, and amine chain extender.

Because the rection activity of isocyanate and polyether polyols is lower, so that catalyst is needed, and there is also special powder to absorb some moisture, in these results, when you spray hybrid, the chamber of the gun is much easy to be damaged.
Because the reaction of pure polyurea part A and part B is more active, so that when the ambient humidity is high, pure polyurea is still stable, moisture won’t participate to the reaction of isocyanate and polyether amin.
While if use hybrid in high humidity, the moisture will participate in the reaction during spray, especially when you do “over spray”, if the make the performance of hybrid polyurea lower.
Because there are additives like moisture absorber or catalyst in the B side of hybrid, so that when you spray hybrid polyurea, the chamber and tips are much easy to be damaged.
But pure polyurea is not always good, the amine has special odor, if somewhere is very strict about the smell, then pure polyurea is not a good choice.
And the raw material of pure polyurea is limited, so that the formulation cannot be adjust in a big region, so that some special formulation like high or low harness, we should use hybrid polyurea to make the formulation design.
Regarding to the price, hybrid is more economic, so that we should considering of the situation and choice the most suitable formulation to our projects.

The B side of pure polyurea has a special amine odor, while the hybrid is light smell.
The pure polyurea is not sensitive to the moisture, so that we can do a small test, we can add several drops of water into the B side resin, and mixed with A side, if it is pure polyurea, it will still cure, if it is hybrid, it will become brittle and like scum.
And when you stir the A side the B side of polyurea, the pure polyurea is getting density slowly, while hybrid will get cured suddenly.
If spray polyurea, and in fact it’s not easy identify from the appearance, but for the fist few days after spray pure polyurea, you can still smell the amine odor from the sheet, and there is almost no special odor on hybrid sheet.

Both pure polyurea and hybrid polyurea has disadvantages and advantages, we should consider about the situation of the project, and choice the most suitable one.
