In our previous article, we discussed that the material feed pumps, spray guns, and proportioning pumps of the pneumatic main unit in polyurea spraying systems are powered by compressed air. However, the compressed air supplied by compressors often contains a significant amount of moisture, oil, and impurities—especially in high-humidity environments—which can negatively affect the quality of the polyurea coating. Therefore, it's essential to filter the air source, and the most important component for this purpose is an oil-water separator, commonly referred to as a refrigerated air dryer.
Compared to centrifugal-type oil-water separators, refrigerated air dryers are better suited for polyurea spraying. They use refrigerants to separate oil and moisture from compressed air, effectively purifying it. This improves the appearance of the polyurea coating and reduces the impact of moisture on its performance.
To check whether the compressed air is clean, a simple method can be used: take a clean white sheet of paper and place it at the air outlet. Compressed air that passes through a refrigerated air dryer will leave no stains or residues on the paper.
